If you’re curious about how to use CBD for anxiety, this article is for you! Anxiety can be challenging to manage, even with CBD.
I recommend a multifaceted approach, including sleep, movement, nutrition, mental health practices and supplementation when managing anxiety– not just CBD.
Many of my patients find CBD helpful for managing anxiety.
For the purposes of this article, I am discussing CBD in an isolate or whole plant form with LOW or NO THC. Products right for these suggestions will be less than .3%THC. That’s .3 (with a “.” before the 3), these products have too little THC to be sold in the WA marijuana/cannabis stores and will come from other sources, like the Nature Plus Pharmacy here at Qwibil.
How to use CBD for anxiety: there are two primary methods, as needed or scheduled.
Which is better for you depends on how anxiety symptoms show up in your life, you can also use a combination of the two methods.
First, consider how anxiety shows up for you.
Do you go through your day feeling mostly okay, but then have episodes of anxious feelings? Do you have some days without noticing anxiety and others where you do? If these seem a good fit, consider using CBD.
For the As Needed approach, you’ll first need to decide what dosage is best for you.
For most patients, I start with a 2mg dose of CBD. Some products are easier to dose that low than others, so pay attention to the label when you buy. I often start patients on our CBD tincture, the ability to dose in drops makes it easier to adjust your dose precisely. You may notice nothing at a low dose of 2mg, if so, you can gradually titrate your dose up until you find an effective dose. It’s usually somewhere between 2mg and 50mg of CBD. When you find the right dosage for you, simply use this dose as needed when anxiety shows up for you.
Scheduled Approach
If you notice anxiety consistently through the day, or it is more predictable what days anxiety will be a challenge, you may want to use CBD on a schedule.
An example would be morning and midday if you notice anxiety during the day, or a single dose each evening for bedtime anxiety. You can use CBD on any schedule and any time of day that works for you.
For the Scheduled approach, you’ll first need to decide what dosage is best for you.
It’s typical for this to be somewhere between 2mg and 50mg.
Once you know what dose helps you, you then need to notice how long each dose works for you. Each person is different, it’s common for this time range to be between 2 and 6 hours. Knowing the dose and timing that works for you allows you to create a Scheduled Approach for treating anxiety. You can then create your plan of what time and how much CBD to use on your schedule. Make adjustments to your schedule as your anxiety symptoms shift over time.
