Dr. Mary Elizabeth Platt is a Board-Certified Osteopathic Family Medicine Physician. Dr. Platt was drawn to becoming an osteopathic physician based on the philosophy of treating the body, mind and spirit. She received her medical degree from Midwestern University Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed her residency at the Puyallup Tribal Health Authority. She has worked both in the hospital and clinic setting.
Utilizing trauma informed care and the Health at Every Size ™ framework, she is passionate about fostering individual relationships with her patients to help them achieve their personal health goals. She sees a wide variety of patients for preventative health care/well exams and those with both acute and chronic health conditions. She enjoys working collaboratively with all parts of your care team, including providers at Qwibil, medical specialists, mental health professionals, physical therapists, etc.
Outside of the office she enjoys spending time in the garden, “adventures” with her two- and four-legged family members, and experimenting with different creative outlets. As a previous cook, she enjoys trying new recipes and incorporating food as medicine into her practice.
Osteopathic medicine is a “whole person” approach to medicine—treating the entire person rather than just the symptoms. The focus of training is on prevention of disease and emphasizes the body, mind and spirit connection. Doctors of Osteopathy (DOs) receive extra training in structural evaluation and manipulation of the musculoskeletal system to diagnose, manage and treat patient conditions through the practice of Osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT).
DOs are complete physicians who, along with MDs, are licensed to prescribe medication and perform surgery in all 50 states. While DOs can go to be specialists such as cardiologists, psychiatrists or surgeons, a significant portion go on to work in primary care due to the nature of their training.
